遊歩道を歩いていくと正面に二つの島が見えてきます。
手前が堂山、沖に洞山、もとは離れた島でしたが、今はつながって、両方で洞山と呼ばれています。
その昔、神功皇后が戦いに行く途中、芦屋に立ち寄り、必勝を誓って矢を射ると、矢は小島を貫通し、その穴が大きくなって洞穴になったという昔話があります。
周辺は釣り場も多く、休日には釣り人や、磯遊びで楽しむたくさんの家族で賑わっています。
